Laura Donefer - Biography

 

Laura has been a moving and very important force in the Canadian glass movement for over 18 years. In 1988, as President of the Glass Art Association of Canada, she was instrumental in uniting all of the glass artists across the country when she began publishing a quarterly magazine, "The Glass Gazette", which is still going strong today, and she is now a frequent contributor, writing articles highlighting Canadian glass artists. As well, Laura has helped organize every single Glass Art Association of Canada conference and has always acted as the dynamic Master of Ceremonies. She has been a tireless and passionate promoter of contemporary Canadian glass at home and abroad, lecturing extensively as far afield as Sydney, Australia and Honolulu. Laura has curated many exhibits to showcase Canadian work, including a major one in Tucson, Arizona entitled "North of the Border", and she is the acknowledged ambassador of Canadian glass, helping to expose the vibrancy and high quality of Canadian contemporary glass to the rest of the world.
